Getting the Buzz on Speech

featuredImages

Resonance refers to enhancement of a sound wave, such as the one created by your vocal fold vibrations. Resonance properties are determined by the size, shape and texture of cavities that a sound wave passes through. You can hear the effects of resonance, and you can also feel them. By hearing and feeling the resonance buzz in speech, you can feed the vocal vibrations and tune them to your liking.

HANG THE HUM-BUZZ … SHAKE IT OUT!
You may find it helpful to explore the buzz from several different body positions:
– head dropped forward toward your chest: “hmmmmmmmm…”; “hnnnnnnnnnnn…” – head dropped back, jaw hanging open: “hnnnnnnnnnnnn…”;”hngngngngngngngng…” – whole body dropped forward from the hips: “hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…” – body upright, head shaking loosely side to side, like “NO”.
